Founded in 1502 on the northern coast of the Dominican Republic, Puerto Plata is
cradled between a colonial harbor and the dramatic backdrop of Mount Isabel de Torres.
It is home to the fortress of San Felipe, built in 1541 to defend the city from
pirate attacks, as well as many turn-of-the-century homes and a charming central
park gazebo
that was recreated from period renderings of the original. |
